Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton escaped the struggles in her early life by using her creative and imaginative imagination. Before she was able to read and write she was making up her own music. She got her first guitar at age 8 and started singing at a Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. She recorded her first album during the same year Gold Band Records, a small independent label. Although she became popular in the local scene while she was at high school, her goals were greater. After graduating from high school in 1964, she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first single to reach the top of the charts on Monument Records. In the year 1967, Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for his television show that was syndicated. Parton joined RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She took on the role in 1967. It was not until 1974 when she made the decision to quit Wagoner's band because the popularity of her own solo records including Joshua Coat, Many Colors and Jolene had outstripped their collaborative efforts. Parton recorded "I Will Always Love You" for Wagoner soon after their split. The track reached the top spot at No. #1 for the first time since 1974.
